This tendinopathy is in most cases caused by an impingement of the supraspinatus tendon on the acromion as it passes between the acromion and the humeral head. Pain, and a decrease in range of motion, strength and functionality are the main complaints that accompany this injury. Being one of the well-established techniques, Sports wet cupping therapy (WCT) was used to treat a case of Supraspinatus tendinosis in this study. This paper aims to report the improved case of supraspinatus tendinosis using the treatment with sports cupping. We used sports cupping therapy for treatment of this patient. This case is measured and assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS), shoulder range of motion (ROM) and shoulder physical examination. Results show the VAS decreased from 10 to 1 and the patient showed nearly full shoulder range of motion in forward flexion, abduction, extension, internal rotation and external rotation. In addition, the physical examination of shoulder and MRI was improved. Sports cupping treatment with wet cupping therapy is found to be helpful to relieve pain and recover function of shoulder joint.
Ahmed Helmy Saleh Shahira Hassan Mohamed F.F Bayomy Tabish Ishaq Shaikh Emad Ahmed Hussein Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Islamic and Complementary Medicine https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-10-03 2024-10-03 5 2 10.55116/IJICM.V5I2.68 EXAMINING CLINICAL STUDIES ABOUT CUPPING THERAPY IN TURKEY: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS https://islamicmedicine.or.id/index.php/ijim/article/view/75
There is insufficient quantitative data available on the characteristics of research conducted on cupping therapy. This insufficiency complicates our ability to achieve a more profound understanding of the subject. The primary aim of this work was to assess the outcome of clinical studies outputs in cupping therapy and discuss methodological gaps. Six databases PubMed, Cochrane Library, Medline, TUBITAK ULAKBIM DergiPark, Science Direct, and Google Scholar, were systematically searched from their inception to January 2024. Performance analysis was made in the study. Frequency and distributions were analyzed with SPSS 24. The software Wordclouds software was used to generate visualization. Within the scope of the research, 26 studies that met the selection criteria were accessed. It was determined that the majority of the studies (46.16%) were written in 2019-2021. The most used technique was 3 S (73.07%), and the most preferred point was du 14 point. While the top two variables are oxidative stress and heavy metal levels, the co-word analysis of keywords showed that "wet cupping therapy" was the largest single node. The findings from this bibliometric study provide the current status and productivity in clinical research of cupping therapy over the past ten years. It is seen that despite the challenges facing the field of cupping research, which include standardization, legal, and reporting quality, there has been an increase in publications to mitigate disease-related symptoms in clinical populations.
Yasemin Ucun Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Islamic and Complementary Medicine https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-09-24 2024-09-24 5 2 108 121 10.55116/IJICM.V5I2.75 THE POTENTIAL OF GINGEROL ACTIVE COMPOUNDS IN ZINGIBER OFFICINALE AS ANTI-CANCER AGENTS https://islamicmedicine.or.id/index.php/ijim/article/view/83
Cancer is a type of chronic disease which is the main cause of death in the world with 19.3 million new cases in 2020. Current cancer treatment includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, antiangiogenesis inhibitors, stem cell therapy, and others. Long-term cancer treatment can cause other health problems, so alternative anti-cancer therapy with the fewest side effects is needed. One natural ingredient that is known to prevent and act as anti-cancer therapy is Zingiber officinale. Zingiber officinale contains gingerol which functions as an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-cancer, anti-tumor and anti-mutagenic. The anticancer effects of gingerol are known to be effective in cancers of the liver, stomach, mouth, prostate, breast and ovaries. This literature aims to delve deeper into the role of gingerol as an anti-cancer compound. The strategy employed in the article search involved using electronic databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed. Keywords utilized included "cancer," "red ginger," "gingerol," "Zingiber officinale," and "anticancer." The articles selected were those published within the last 10 years. The study results indicate that gingerol is beneficial in oral, breast, lung, colorectal, cervical, and prostate cancers. The mechanism of action of gingerol involves pathways such as the PI3K/AKT, JAK/STAT, apoptosis, and ROS proliferation pathways. Gingerol is known to be effective as an anti-cancer agent and has the potential to become one of the alternative anti-cancer treatments.
Kamalia Layal Aisyah Anggun H Nadya Salsabillah Syarinta Adenina Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Islamic and Complementary Medicine https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-10-01 2024-10-01 5 2 122 127 10.55116/IJICM.V5I2.83 LITERATURE REVIEW THE ROLE OF ACUPUNCTURE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY https://islamicmedicine.or.id/index.php/ijim/article/view/95
Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a condition characterized by damage to the peripheral nervous system, resulting in symptoms such as pain, numbness, and weakness in the hands and feet. The most common causes include diabetes, thyroid disorders, vitamin B12 deficiency, alcohol abuse, chemotherapy, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Despite the availability of various treatments, neurological disorders remain a significant therapeutic challenge. The therapeutic effects of acupuncture are attributed to several mechanisms, including stimulation of nerve fibers, restoration of blood flow, release of neurotransmitters and hormones, modulation of the autonomic nervous system, anti-inflammatory effects, and increased neuroplasticity. These mechanisms collectively contribute to the relief of symptoms associated with peripheral neuropathy. Evidence suggests that acupuncture is beneficial in treating peripheral neuropathy. Studies have shown that acupuncture can improve nerve conduction study parameters in sensory and motor nerves, reduce neuropathic pain, and improve overall nerve function. Certain acupuncture points such as ST-36, GB-34, SP-3, SP-8, and BI-56 have been identified as particularly effective in managing symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. Although more rigorous studies are needed to fully characterize the effects of acupuncture on peripheral neuropathy, the available evidence supports its use as a complementary therapy. Standardized acupuncture protocols that combine anatomical correlation with peripheral nerves and traditional approaches to neuropathic pain management appear to be effective. Further studies with larger sample sizes and randomized comparisons to sham acupuncture will help establish acupuncture as a guideline for treating peripheral neuropathy. This review outlines the potential of acupuncture as a complementary therapy in the management of peripheral neuropathy.
Elisha Rosalyn Indri Seta Septadina Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Islamic and Complementary Medicine https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-10-01 2024-10-01 5 2 128 135 10.55116/IJICM.V5I2.95 CUPPING AND FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE PROBLEMS: A NARRATIVE REVIEW https://islamicmedicine.or.id/index.php/ijim/article/view/89
Al-hijamah, or cupping therapy, uses a cupping device to vacuum suction the skin. The recommendation and virtues of cupping are found in various hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It has been used traditionally for centuries and is gaining recognition for its potential health benefits, especially in women's reproductive health. The aim of this review is to map the research results on the cupping method (Al-hijamah) as an evidence-based treatment method for addressing reproductive problems in women. This narrative review uses databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, EBSCO, and Grey Literature, as well as Google Scholar and Research Rabbit. Based on the results of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 articles were retrieved, and 2 themes were obtained, namely the role of cupping therapy for women's reproductive health and various combinations of cupping with other methods. Cupping therapy can have a positive impact on various aspects of female reproductive health, including menstrual disorders and infertility. Studies have shown improvements in menstrual cycles, reduction in menstrual pain, and increased fertility rates in women who undergo cupping therapy. In addition, cupping therapy has also shown promise in treating conditions such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and anemia associated with excessive menstrual bleeding.

Dewi Anggraini Padmaningtyas Sesaria Lukman Andari Wuri Astuti Septiana Ade Amalia Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Islamic and Complementary Medicine https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-10-01 2024-10-01 5 2 136 148 10.55116/IJICM.V5I2.89 THE BENEFITS OF MUSA PARADISIACA L. Various efforts to overcome the problem of hypertension have been made, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. A therapy based on the patient's habits or culture will certainly be easier to implement and obey by. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of self-acupressure on blood pressure, headache, and sleep quality of hypertensive patients. The research method used is a quasi-experiment, single-group pre-post-test design. The sample in this study were hypertensive patients who fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria at Wonokerto Health Centre, Pekalongan Regency. The data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis. Bivariate analysis used paired group t-test technique. The results showed that there was an effect of self-acupressure in reducing systolic blood pressure (p-value: 0.004), headache pain scale (p-value: 0.001), and decreased sleep quality disorder score (p value: 0.000). Massaging at acupressure points has the effect of improving blood flow, stimulating endorphin hormones and providing a relaxing effect so that it can reduce blood pressure, headache pain scale and sleep quality disturbance scores. Recommendations for future research are to add a control group and/or compare it with other independent complementary therapy techniques.
Sri Mumpuni Yuniarsih Nunung Hasanah Rahajeng Win Martani Umum Afifah Copyright (c) 2024 International Journal of Islamic and Complementary Medicine https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2024-10-03 2024-10-03 5 2 168 176 10.55116/IJICM.V5I1.88
